Circulation of Blood through the Heart

Heart is a pump that drives blood around the entire body.

 SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION

1. LV contracts and pushes blood into aorta
2. Aorta supplies and distributed oxygenated blood to all parts of the body
3. De-oxygenated blood from all parts of body is returned by two large veins (superior and inferior vena cava) into RA
4. RA contracts amd sends blood into RV

PULMONARY CIRCULATION

5. RV pushes blood into the two pulmonary arteries.
6. Pulmonary arteries carry blood to the lungs for exchange of gases (Blood now becomes oxygenated)
6. Oxygenated blood is carried by pulmonary veins into LA
7. LA contracts send blood into LV

* Oxygen-rich (Oxygenated) blood
Enters the heart from the lungs and goes out to the body

* Oxygen-Poor (De-oxygenated) blood
Enters the heart from the body and goes out to the lungs

* ARTERIES carrying blood away from the heart

* VEINS carrying blood to the heart
